Alongside conventional photographic services, I am currently adding to my portfolio with innovative projects that put photography to use in exciting new ways.
Fixed Point Photography with South Devon AONB
See the Bigger Picture. My work with South Devon AONB involves rephotographing the changing landscape from a Fixed Point. It is set to be continued over 20 years, with one panoramic image shot every season. The project will provide a rich archive of the landscape and will become fantastic tool with many uses. The images can influence landscape changes by documenting the past and informing future decisions, provide excellent material for tourism and perfectly illustrate how our landscape is dynamic and evolving.
My involvement has included shooting technically challenging panoramic photographs, advising on equipment as well as producing tailored training materials. Next steps of the project involve looking into the little known effects of light pollution in our night skies, a growing issue I was interested to learn about. To explore this further I will be using the Fixed Point sites for some night-time panoramic photographs, and developing more creative ways to illustrate and document the growing problem. Pinhole Pedallers – camera obscura workshops
The camera obscura is an infinitely diverse piece of equipment – simple, beautiful and capable of translating the complexities of photography in truly accessible and interactive way.
What better way to understand how your camera works than climbing inside one? I have built a giant camera obscura (essentially, a large but very simple camera) made from a 4” telescope lens to produce a crisp, magical image that is LIVE. It was recently on tour with the Pinhole Pedallers where it visited landscapes of the South West. It has now been refined, and I am creating exciting workshops for all ages groups teaching about photography and using the obscura to inform, inspire and excite. These workshops will be launched early 2012, if you are interested in hearing more just get in touch!
